This is the final part of our exclusive interview with Real Housewives of Orange County star Tamra Barney! Tamra updates us on her friendship with Gretchen! Last season the two became friends after being enemies, but have things continued to be all rainbows and sprinkles?
Tamra also talks about her son Ryan, her three wedding dresses, Housewives who try to become singers, and what she thinks of the critics who think she is a bitch who likes to bully cast mates!
AllAboutTRH: Has your friendship with Gretchen continued to grow this season?
Tamra Barney: Yes, it’s grown. We continue. We definitely have some hiccups with some things I’ve seen in her that were issues that I had in the very beginning with her. It made me open my eyes and question, ‘is this really what I want in a friend?’
I’m not saying we’re enemies by any means. I still talk to her, but some things definitely come to light.
Viewers want to know how your son Ryan is doing.
He’s doing great! He is working here part-time. He lives in Newport right on the water, living the dream.
I heard you’re getting married this summer! Anything you can say about that?
Yes! We’re getting married this summer. The planning has really started. I can’t really say much about.
So that means it’s probably going to be filmed, right?
Let’s just say…I can’t talk about it.
Are you able to reveal any dress details? Viewers want to know about your gown and color choice!
Well, I’m actually going to have three dresses. I am working with Mark Zunino in Beverly Hills. He designs for Kleinfeld, and he’ll be fabulous!
And Heather Dubrow is going to be singing at my wedding! She doesn’t like to talk about it because she’s embarrassed because of all the disgusting Housewives songs!
Who’s your favorite Housewives singer, if you had to pick one?
None! They all suck!
Yes! Have you heard her sing? Are you going to argue with me? No Housewives should sing! I think the only one that kind of has a voice is that Melissa Gorga. Kind of.
But Heather is a singer. She used to do it as a profession. She used to be a wedding singer and she had a big band that she sang with. She even used to sing at Disneyland. She’s extremely talented, but doesn’t want it to be a joke.
How do you feel about Housewives who come on these shows and then claim they’re being bullied?
I think it’s a joke. I think that when you sign your contract and you know what you’re in for and then say you’re being bullied then you need to get the f off. If you can’t handle it, get off.
This is a huge platform. This is a show. There is a huge expectation of you and if you have skeletons in your closet and you don’t want them out, don’t blame the other girls and don’t call it bullying because that’s bullsh*t. Nobody’s forcing you to be on the show.
Do you think Bravo has done a proper job accurately portraying you on the show? Some viewers think you come off as a bitch.
Sometimes people are afraid of the truth. I was hired to do a job and my job was to be real. I am not on the show to show the viewers what I want to show them. I show them what true life is. I don’t get up there and think ‘Oh, I’m not going to say this because I want everybody to love me.’ No, that’s not who I am.
I was given a job and I’m doing it well. Andy Cohen refers to me as “the perfect Housewife”. I take my job very seriously and when I sign a contract asking me to be real, I’m going to be real. If you’re going to do something stupid, I’m going to call you out. That’s what I’m here to do. I am not here to make friends and I tell every single one of the girls that. I’m here to do a job. I have Housewives from other franchises calling me and asking me ‘how do you do this?’ or ‘how do you balance this?’ and I say this: ‘I don’t lie, I don’t cheat, and I don’t exaggerate.’
What you see me do is be honest. That’s what I’m here to do. If I could I would ask to only show my purse line, or request to get my hair done every day, but that’s not reality. I do have a sarcastic side and Bravo only shows a certain percentage of you, so if that’s all they show… They don’t see me as a mom. They don’t see a lot of my life. You do see a lot of sarcasm because they love my one-liners.
Is there anything you’d like to tell your fans as you enter your sixth season on their TV screens?
I’ve been through so many stages on the show and I guess I just want to say that it doesn’t matter what age you are, you can make things happen for yourself. I’m not a person that believes in luck. I think you create your own destiny. Everybody is dealt certain cards in their life, some better than others, and it’s what you do with those cards.
Are you surprised Tamra has had to question Gretchen as a friend? Do you think she slammed Gretchen’s purse line when she said some Housewives only want to show their purse lines?
What do you think of Tamra’s take on the way she is portrayed on the show?
