EXCLUSIVES Vanderpump Rules

AllAboutTRH Exclusive! What’s It Really Like To Dine at SUR in Hollywood??

Anyone who has seen the ‘soap opera come to life’ Vanderpump Rules has wondered what it’s like to dine at the popular restaurant. Is it as crazy as the show makes it seem? Will you run into one of the infamous SURvers? Does the staff actually work or do they just gossip and fight while on the clock? Well loyal readers, I have your answers as I made a trip to the WeHo restaurant while in California and have the exclusive scoop on what it’s really like to dine at the ‘Sexy, Unique Restaurant!’

Upon arriving at SUR the theme song instantly popped into my head and I half expected to hear the song ‘Raise your Glass’ start to play (alas that did not happen:)

A prime photo-op is the neon ‘SUR Rules’ sign that greets you at the door (a nod to show that has made the restaurant so infamous:)

Now the big question that every VPR fan wants to know is if they will see a cast member if they dine out at SUR. I didn’t have high hopes as the cast may have started out waiting tables to make ends meet; however many have now moved on to bigger and better things (Tom Tom anyone?) While you had a pretty good chance at running into Jax or Stassi when the show first started, nowadays it has been reported that the cast never works the same shifts unless they are in the middle of filming. While you may not see the entire cast at once, one of the first people I saw before even entering the restaurant was none other than Peter Madrigal, looking dapper as ever:

In case you think the cast is just a pretty face for the restaurant, I can assure you that Peter was so busy working I felt too bad to bother him for a photo (seriously – he looked like he was doing three things at once.)

Our dinner reservation was for 7:30 PM, and as we had a gorgeous weather I requested that we sit outside to enjoy that beautiful California sunshine. I was planning on ordering all of the signature SUR menu items; however on such a warm evening I couldn’t resist ordering a refreshing ‘Cucumber Margarita’ which I can confidently say was one of the best margarita’s I’ve ever had. My motto for the night was ‘when at SUR drink like a SURver’:

For appetizers, we ordered the chicken dumplings and of course I had to get the fried goat cheese balls (if they’re good enough for Stassi Schroeder they’re good enough for me!)

For an entree I got the blackened scallops – all of which was delicious I must add. If you’re in the area and aren’t a fan of the show, I’d still recommend going just for the food and drink:

Despite no Lisa Vanderpump sightings, you can definitely see her signature feminine touch in the details of the restaurant. I had to take a photo of our table centerpiece as it definitely had the ‘LVP’ feel to it:

Things really start to heat up at SUR at night, so after dinner the restaurant started to turn into the club/lounge atmosphere that many viewers think of when they think of the show. I will say dining there during normal hours is like being at any other restaurant (no one is throwing wine or in tears) however after dinner I started to get more of the signature ‘SUR’ vibe. The bouncer/doorman came out, the lighting dimmed and a DJ was getting ready to get things started. Despite being there on a Tuesday, unfortunately it was not a ‘See you Next Tuesday’ night and there were no ‘DJ James Kennedy’ sightings:

I should also mention that when I was leaving the restaurant I wasn’t paying attention (I was texting on my phone, naturally) and almost walked into Lisa’s business partner Guillermo. Luckily I avoided a run-in but unfortunately didn’t have time for a photo. Guillermo looked great and I’m assuming that he was coming in to check in on that night’s events and keep an eye on the staff.

Overall, my SUR experience was great and I would recommend going if you are in the area. If you are really hoping for more ‘Vanderpump Rules‘ run-ins, check with the filming schedule as it’s the best way to catch the reality stars all at once. The ambiance, food and drink are all amazing so if you want to go just to see what it’s like to enjoy a LVP approved meal, I can assure you it doesn’t disappoint.

Special thanks to my cousin and his wife for showing this Midwest girl a great time in La La Land!
