Don’t worry SJP – your buddy Andy Cohen has your back!
In case you hadn’t heard,
Samantha Kim Cattrall and Carrie Sarah Jessica Parker aren’t exactly in the best place. The two have been feuding for years on the set of Sex and the City and it recently brought to life again when it announced that there would be no third movie, despite having a script. It was automatically reported that Kim Cattrall was the reason as she did not want to do another and due to issues with compensation.
Recently Kim was in the news again, this time for her brother tragically passing away after being found dead in Canada. Kim received many well wishes, including one from her former SATC costar, Sarah Jessica Parker. SJP sent Kim a sweet message via social media stating:
“Dearest Kim, my love and condolences to you and yours and Godspeed to your beloved brother. Xx.”
I thought the message was sweet and appropriate. The two aren’t close so I thought something simple was truly heartfelt vs. doing something over the top for show. Apparently Kim didn’t think so as she blasted SJP for even mentioning her after her brothers death. In a shocking Instagram post, Kim stated that she and SJP were never friends, going as far to say that: “You are not my friend” and “I don’t need your love and support at this tragic time.”
I’m sure this post shocked and hurt SJP as she was so publicly blasted; however her bestie Andy Cohen quickly came to her defense.
Speaking out on his Radio Andy show, Andy states that:
“I thought it was fake. I was like, ‘There’s no way Kim Cattrall has posted this on her Instagram.’ This is a woman who is in the middle of grieving the loss of her brother, which is tragic and sad. She accused [Sarah Jessica Parker] of exploiting a tragedy and I’ve been getting all these tweets from people.”
“She was doing press all last week for Divorce. And you know, guess what? When you’re doing press, you’re asked the same questions about what’s going on. So people, I’m sure, were like, ‘What do you think of what happened?’ And she simply and concisely expressed her condolences. I would not call that exploiting a tragedy. What was she supposed to do? Say something bad? I don’t understand.”
Andy (who has been accused of promoting cat fights among women) also defended his friend from that adding he doesn’t:
“like it that people are characterizing this as a catfight. There’s only one person fighting here.”
I love that Andy stood up for his friend as I’m sure SJP would have done the same for him. Personally I think SJP was ‘damned if she did and damned if she didn’t.’ If she didn’t say anything I’m sure she would have been criticized for being cold to Kim at this difficult time, and if she said anything she was accused of exploitation. Unless SJP did something extremely cruel to Kim behind the scenes I’m not sure what was wrong with her message. I do think that Kim is grieving and may not be thinking clearly; therefore perhaps she will regret what she said as time goes on.
What do you think about Andy defending Sarah Jessica Parker? Do you think he should have weighed in or kept quiet?
