Let's Discuss: Real Housewives of Beverly Hills - RHOBH Yolanda Hadid

Yolanda Hadid Reveals She Contemplated Suicide; Plus Explains How Lyme Disease Led To Her Divorce From David Foster!

Yolanda Hadid seemed to have it all – a gorgeous Malibu mansion, a closet to die for, a wonderful marriage, three beautiful children, and reality TV fame but what she didn’t have was perfect health.

Long before fans knew about Yolanda’s battle with Lyme Disease the former Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star suffered in silence.

In her new memoir, Believe Me: My Battle With the Invisibility of Lyme Disease, Yolanda opens up about how Lyme Disease took over every facet of her life and left a path of destruction in its wake.

When the world first met Yolanda on the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, she was a happy, lemon picking former model, who was newly married to her “King” David Foster.

But what we didn’t know was that she had just been diagnosed with Lyme Disease and that it was already wreaking havoc on her marriage and life.

Yolanda reveals that symptoms like joint pain, exhaustion, insomnia, and anxiety plagued her making everyday tasks difficult. As a result, her relationship with her “love” David changed tremendously.

“All of a sudden all of the things we shared, all of the things we used to love to do together, go for walks in the morning, having a studio in the house and blasting music all day, having dinner parties, that all shut down,” she says. “I couldn’t participate in that life anymore.”

Despite her attempts, Yolanda could no longer keep up with her former lifestyle of traveling, cooking, horse back riding, lemon picking, and hosting dinner parties.

“I’m starting to feel that David is unhappy with the fact that I can’t be by his side the way that I used to be,” she writes in her memoir. “I try to make light of it and joke that he married a lemon. It’s sad but true. I went from being the funny girlfriend who was up for anything and had endless energy to the wife who is too sick to be by his side.”

“He lost his wingman, his partner in crime, and I feel as if he’s starting to get impatient with my recovery. I understand that even brief periods of illness can strain important relationships in your life. A chronic condition like mine, one that has consumed years of our lives, poses enormous challenges.”

David and Yolanda announced their divorce in December of 2015, and many speculated that Yolanda’s health issues caused their split.

Despite dealing with heartbreak in the midst of her ongoing health crisis, Yolanda made it clear she had no hard feelings toward David.

“I had a great seven year run with him, and I will always hold that I high regards and have gratitude for that time together,” she says. “If he didn’t leave the marriage I would not be where I am today.”

Meanwhile, Yolanda also reveals that during the height of her battle with Lyme Disease she contemplated suicide. The former RHOBH star says that while on vacation in Flordia with David she could no longer take the pain and considered ending it all.

“I take off my clothes and slip into the dark blue ocean, which is cool and comforting,” she writes in her book. “The waves gently wash over my naked body, and I can feel the current tugging at me. Tears pour out of my eyes, roll across my cheeks, and meld with the salt water as I try to still my mind to become one with the water’s ebb and flow.”

“God please just take me away in a wave. I can’t live like this one more day. Please carry my body away. I just want to disappear,” she writes. “My next thought is a clear image of my three children. It shifts my consciousness immediately, and that’s the only thing that keeps me from letting myself drift and drown.”

Now, Yolanda says she is in what “feels like remission” and is focused on her recovery and finding a cure.

“As difficult as these past five years have been, I am so grateful that this journey has led me to living in the light,” she says. “I have had it all and lost it all, only to realize that less is more, money can’t buy you health or happiness, and one day at a time is good enough.”

My heart breaks for Yolanda. I can’t imagine dealing with such an unimaginable amount of pain on a day to day basis. I see people in my life deal with invisible illnesses, and it is devastating to watch. I can’t wait to read the rest of Yolanda’s book and learn more about her journey.

Are you excited for Yolanda’s upcoming memoir? Will you be picking up Yolanda’s book? Are you surprised Yolanda’s battle with Lyme Disease affected her marriage, David? Can you believe Yolanda contemplated suicide? Would Yolanda and David still be together if Yolanda never got ill?

  • Good lord, what a freakin’ drama queen. And her prose sounds like she took a creastive writing class or something.

  • Whether her struggle is with Lyme Disease, depression, bipolar disorder, or some other thing, I wish her the best and hope she recovers, for her children’s sake who very clearly love her to the moon.

  • Did we really need a book from this Fame Hungry Woman! Wish her the best with her health and also wish to never see her again. Thanks for the kids and Erika Jayne but I’ll pass on anything else from Yo-Liar!!

  • I can’t imagine anyone is going to buy this book. She saturation bravo watchers with her lymes and now nobody cares

  • I would admire her much more if she sought professional mental help and got properly diagnosed. THAT would be a great role model for people out there. The way she’s going she’s just making people with real chronic illness look bad. I mean Yolanda said her own family didn’t believe her illness, and finally David had enough too (not saying he’s a saint but it’s hard to live with someone with mental illness). The disturbing thing is she’s passing this ‘I’m sick’ mantra on to her children.

  • I do believe she suffers from LD (albeit not as severely as she portrays it) but I think her real problem is mental illness. She’s incredibly narcissistic with her constant stream of ‘me, me, me’. Her stories get grander and more desperate as she continues to fall from public favor. I find it hard to believe someone with such chronic LD can galavant around the world taking hospital selfies for Instagram.

  • Hey quick. Someone needs to alert the publisher that there is a misspelling on the cover. Should be – My Battle with the Invisible Disability of LIES Disease.

  • So grammar isn’t the only problem around here anymore. It appears knowing your subject doesn’t matter either as long as you toss together a word salad. Lisa is known for her closet. Yolanda is known for her refrigerator.

  • interesting that as soon as her kids became famous she moved to New York and is suddenly “in remission.” The book she “wrote” sounds nothing like the way she speaks.

    • I’m sure she had help as she herself said English , phrases and so on were a struggle for her even though lived her for years . At least she admits it lol !

    • Pretty sure she would use a ghost writer as many celebrities do for memoirs since they are not all actual writers…

  • I have always supported Yolanda and believed she had LD – but I have in the past provided proof of her lying about having this disease. She made this disclosure about suicide on Dr. Oz.

After 101 dr’s and “questionable/illegal” drugs – I am positive the end result is that Yolanda does have mental health issues. I am not saying the M word. No one deserves to live that type of life – I do wish Yolanda would get professional help for what is in her mind. I support anyone in being mentally healthy.

The ex spent over 1M in flying all over the world to see doctors and participate in medication/practices that are not sanctioned or investigated for saftey for human consumption.

My deal breaker with Yolanda – who I thought was an awesome/classy lemon women…

This charity invited her to participate in raising funds for LD –

“Bay Area Lyme Foundation’s LymeAid Brings Celebrities and Scientists Together to Help Accelerate Medical Breakthroughs for Lyme Disease”

AND yolanda’s excuse for not attending

“Yolanda Foster, a member of The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills and a high profile sufferer of Lyme disease, who along with her husband, music producer David Foster, were honorary chairs of the event but did not attend due the severity of her symptoms of Lyme disease”

Meanwhile Yolanda posts various instagrams of her visiting her mom same date as function

  • Be well Yolanda ???? I’m in the absolute minority I know but I always believed that her struggle was real .
    All the best Yo xoxox

    • I’m with ya .
I think it’s shitty when a struggle comes along and a partner is weak and can’t handle it . On the other hand , I wasn’t there so it’s whatever . He’s a selfish grown baby I guess ? And prior to split I gave that ass kudos lol!

      • I’ve always believed men are not wired to be long term care givers. It’s not in their DNA. That Y chromosome has many imperfections ?. Did she go over the top? Of course she did ! Was she faking it? No . That was her distorted reality and it consumed her life for years

        Love u ??????
